Employability Advice for Asylum Seekers and Refugees

Pathways to Employment and Opportunity

Our Employability Advice project provides personalised employment support to asylum seekers and refugees living in Nottingham, helping them prepare for work in the UK and build confidence for future employment.

Working one-to-one with our Employment Advisor, clients receive tailored guidance based on their skills, qualifications and career goals. Support includes creating CVs and cover letters, job searching, completing applications, interview preparation, understanding employment rights, and information about the UK labour market. We also provide advice on applying for permission to work where appropriate and referrals to volunteering and work experience opportunities to help clients gain valuable UK experience.

Unlike many employment services, this project also supports asylum seekers before they receive permission to work, enabling them to become work-ready while awaiting a decision on their claim. This means they can move into employment more quickly once they are granted the right to work. We also support refugees already in employment who are seeking work that better reflects their qualifications, skills and experience.

The project works closely with local partners and refugee community organisations to ensure support reaches those who may not otherwise engage with mainstream employment services, helping people overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
